Before you press Rebirth
Walk up to the rebirth cat in the area for that rebirth. The menu opens when you reach it. Coins and unlocked areas reset. Pets, Diamonds, and the permanent unlock from that rebirth are not listed as things you lose.
Save enough coins to buy a strong egg again after the reset. If you rebirth with an empty coin balance, you walk back through early areas on foot.
Documented gates
Area numbers below are the gates listed for the nine rebirths. Rewards are included only where a rebirth heading actually listed them. Rebirths 5 and 7 have a gate and an incomplete reward excerpt, so their item lines are not guessed.

A note on one wiki page says the maximum was 9 rebirths as of Update 26. That sentence is dated. This guide does not claim Update 97 left the cap unchanged, and it does not invent a tenth rebirth.
How to choose
Take Rebirth 1 when you can reach Area 25 and still buy eggs afterward. Auto Hatch and the Castle Key change how you play. Take Rebirth 4 when you want Tech World, Ultimates, and Mastery. Take Rebirth 8 when you want the Void hub. The +75% pet strength on each of these rows is the reason a rebirth is progress even though the map locks again.
Pumpkin Rebirth in the Blood Moon event is a separate button on a filled Giant Pumpkin. It is not one of the nine area rebirths. See the Blood Moon guide.
